When a ‘mum’ and a ‘dad’ decide to produce something to reflect themselves, there is always some hope that the progeny will be monumental, worthy of a place in the world and to make a mark in whatever path they choose to undertake.
As is well known, Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc were (dare I say) selected to be the parents for the noblest of grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon. At the time, you have to wonder if there was some conjecture about the selection. However, it has to be said, what a great decision that turned out to be.
And in a cool‑climate region like Orange, Cabernet Sauvignon shows those inherited traits with clarity. Freshness from its mother, finesse from its father, and a structure all its own.

A delightful aromatic introduction sets the tone beautifully for this wine. Youthful and fresh dark fruits of blackcurrant, blackberry and plums with subtle hints of liquorice and spice. The palate displays ‘Confident Cabernet’ structure with black berry and currant fruits leading the charge and plum characters in support adding a fullness. Tannins are a tad drying but the lush fruit wraps them up beautifully. There’s really good length here with the flavours carrying through to the finish. It drinks impressively well in its youth, showing both freshness and composure yet the underlying structure suggests it will age gracefully for those willing to wait.
